THE 3% MOVEMENT & THE ATHENA FILM FESTIVAL  ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF
THE 2nd ANNUAL ATHENA ADVERTISING AWARDS

NEW YORK – November 9, 2018 – The 3% Movement, the advertising/creative industry’s leading voice in gender equality and diversity overall, and the Athena Film Festival, which showcases films that celebrate the stories of fierce and fearless women leaders, announced the winners of the annual Athena Advertising Awards, which honors creative advertising that depicts strong, bold women from all walks of life, recognizing marketing messages infused with ambition, moxie, courage, and resilience.

The 2018 winners include “Here to Create Change” by TBWA\Chiat\Day New York in the Integrated Campaigns category; “One Girl’s Future” by T3 in the Social Marketing category; “Mama Said Knock You Out” by Droga5 in the Film category; and “No Conditions” by FCB India in the Events/Experiential category. The respective clients were Adidas, UPS, Chase Bank, and Times of India.

Winners were announced on Friday, Nov. 9 at The 3% Conference in Chicago before a live audience of 1,300 and thousands more via the global livestream. The audience of male and female creative leaders from the worlds of advertising, marketing, PR, tech, nonprofits and more responded favorably to the messages of athleticism, ambition, drive and inclusivity exemplified in the four campaigns. The winners will also be showcased during the Athena Film Festival at Barnard College in New York, Feb. 28 – March 3, 2019.

“As a former Creative Director, I’m thrilled to see such a variety of clients represented in this year’s Athena Ad Award winners,” said Kat Gordon, founder and CEO of The 3% Movement. “It proves a belief I’ve held for years: that every single consumer category can benefit from showcasing women in authentic and dimensional ways. This work is powerful and memorable and will build affinity in consumers’ minds.”

This year’s judges of the Awards included: Swati Bhattacharya, Chief Creative Officer of FCB Ulka who served as Jury Chair; Amy Ferguson, Executive Creative Director of TBWA\Chiat\Day; and Ryan Oliver, Brand Strategy at Twitter. Twitter underwrote the Athena Advertising Awards as a sponsor of the 3% Conference event and additional judges stepped in to judge work from other judges’ agencies as needed.

“Our panel of distinguished judges did a wonderful job of selecting ads that reflect woman’s courage and moxie,” said Kathryn Kolbert, co-founder of the Athena Film Festival. “The winning ads help change what women’s leadership looks like. We are especially excited to see a winning entry from India in the first year we made the competition global.”

The Athena Advertising Awards competition was open to all global brands and advertising agencies that have developed creative campaigns since January 1, 2017 in five award categories: Film, Social Marketing, Events/Experiential, Print and Integrated Campaigns. There was no winner in the Print category this year.

ABOUT THE 3% MOVEMENT

Now moving beyond awareness to activation, the 3% team offers consulting services with agencies and brands to support more diverse leadership and a 3% Certified program that awards those demonstrating true leadership around gender diversity.
