Kathryn Kolbert is more than just the co-founder of the Athena Film Festival and director of the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard. In 1992, Kolbert argued the landmark case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey before the U.S. Supreme Court and helped to save Roe v. Wade. Before coming to Barnard, Kolbert was the president and CEO of People for the American Way and People for the American Way Foundation, two premier nonprofit organizations dedicated to protecting civil liberties. With the Athena Film Festival starting next week,The Eye talked to Kolbert about the importance of diversifying storytelling in film and the benefits of bringing about change and equality in the film industry.
