
Early summer in a village in northern Turkey, Lale and her four sisters are walking home from school, playing innocently with some boys. Their play sets off a scandal that has unexpected consequences. The family home is progressively transformed into a prison instruction in homemaking replaces school, and marriages start being arranged. The five sisters who share a common passion for freedom, find ways of getting around the constraints imposed on them.

Filmmaker Bio:
Deniz Gamze Ergüven was born in Turkey but grew up and went to school in France. She attended La Fémis and graduated in 2008. Her debut film Mustang premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Europa Cinemas Label Award. It later played in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film for the 2016 Academy Awards.
