A story about an illiterate woman’s fight against patriarchy and gender violence to ensure women’s participation in politics in her village, it is anything but a fairy tale. When Laal Pari an illiterate woman stood for the village council election in rural Bihar, India, little did she know that she would be re-elected for the second term, and be able to work for the cause closest to her heart – safety and equal rights for women in her village community. It is a tale of determination and courage in the face of patriarchy and gender violence.
