Dalya’s Other Country

Held Auditorium

  • Director: Julia Meltzer
  • Type: Documentaries
  • Year: 2018
  • Language: English, Arabic
  • Length: 74 mins
  • Screening: Feb 25 12:00 PM

With their country at war and her parents’ marriage falling apart, 12-year-old Dalya and her mother leave Aleppo, Syria, to join her brother in Los Angeles. Together they navigate life in a new country. Dalya, a smiling, effervescent teenager who is the only girl who wears a headscarf at her all-girls Catholic school, must balance her father’s expectations with her developing ideals. A remarkable story of a family displaced by the Syrian conflict, Dalya’s Other Country explores how they must grow and change, caught between highly politicized identities.
