Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock

  • Director: Sharon La Cruise
  • Type: Documentaries
  • Year: 2012
  • Country: USA
  • Language: English
  • Length: 60 minutes

Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock tells the story of a forgotten civil rights activist, Daisy Bates who became a household name in 1957 in her assistance of the nine black students who fought for the right to attend the all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Her courage culminated in a constitutional crisis — pitting a President against a Governor and a community against itself. Unconventional, revolutionary, and egotistical, Daisy Bates refused to accept her assigned place in society and opened doors that had been sealed for generations. As this eloquent movie documents, Daisy Bates reaped the rewards of instant fame, but paid dearly for it.
