The Athena Film Festival welcomes One Billion Rising, a project of V-DAY and Makers as special partners for the 2013 festival.

Video of several Makers will appear before each feature program, and One Billion Rising will appear before each shorts program.

Today, on the planet, a billion women – one of every three women – will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION mothers, daughters, sisters, partners, and friends violated.  V-Day REFUSES to stand by.  On February 14th, 2013, V-Day is inviting one billion women and those who love them to walk out, dance, rise up and demand an end to this violence. 13,000 organizations around the globe have already signed on and One Billion Rising actions are being planned in over 182 countries. MAKERS: WOMEN CHANGING AMERICA

A multi-platform video experience created by Dyllan McGee with AOL and PBS premieres on PBS, February 26, 2013.

More than a movie, MAKERS is a movement; a comprehensive and compelling testament to the contribution so many women have made to America’s past, present and future.

The project started with close to over 150 original interviews (celebrated leaders such as Billie Jean King, Sandra Day O’Connor and Faye Wattleton and unsung heroes such as Maria Pepe and Kathrine Switzer.
